The game of golf can be hard and when you have scoring opportunities you need to take advantage of them. So after you have hit that nice driver, then a nice approach shot for a birdie opportunity, you need to give yourself the best chance possible at making that putt.

David Keller from Train Your Aim set out to make a training tool to help you take advantage of those opportunities. So let’s take a look and see if the Train Your Aim putting aid can help your game.
Tech/Specs:
- Easy to attach to the putter.
- Can be used by right and left handers.
- Fits in your bag, pocket.
- Lightweight and adjustable.
- Produces repeatable stroke, time after time!
The Train Your Aim is a fairly simple tool and design as far as technology goes. It is basically two pieces of plastic that clip together to create an arrow. To get started all you need is your putter (or other club), the tool and a golf ball. The tool is easy to set up and attach. With a simple click onto the shaft of your putter, a quick alignment and you are ready to go. It literally took me 10 seconds to get this thing set up for this testing session.
The tool is very light but tough enough not to bend and lose it’s straightness, which obviously is a big part of the tool. Because of it’s size it’s easy to store in your pocket, golf bag or wherever else you want to keep it.
The idea behind the Train Your Aim is to create a repeatable putting stroke and help you align your putts properly. Here is a quick video of the inventor David Keller explaining the Train Your Aim.
Performance:
I think I have a pretty decent putting stroke as I have put a lot of time and effort into my putting game. So I was interested to see if this could help me in any possible way. I tested out the Train Your Aim in my indoor putting studio and found it extremely easy to set up. Like I mentioned before, with a click and quick alignment I was ready to go. I made sure to follow all the advice and instructions by David Keller on how to best use the tool. I aligned the device along my putting line and kept my head still through the entire putting stroke.
Here is a fun video of David Keller explaining the device to a local news channel.
Because the Train Your Aim is a long straight pointer, you can really tell if you are off line through your putting stroke. I was able to make a slight adjustment to make sure my strokes were staying straight, especially through impact. After I made the adjustment, I have to admit that I was hitting more consistent online putts. The real key to making this tool beneficial is keeping your head still and on the ball all the way through impact. By doing so, I could really see if the arrow was staying straight. Keep in mind that this tool is strictly to help you align your swing and to create a more consistent stroke. If you take the time to use this over and over, your muscle memory will take over when you hit the course. I did find it hard to tell what was happening on long lag putts. The reason for that is simply the putter is moving at a faster pace and it was hard to see what was going on.
Overall:
I’m not going to tell you that this tool by Train Your Aim is going to make you the best putter on the planet, but if used properly I think some people will find it useful. If you struggle with aligning your putts, then I would say this might be worth taking a look at. I also think it will help you realize either how consistent or non-consistent your putting stroke truly is. With the price of just $9.99, I can see how this tool might be advantageous for some golfers.
