BOOM SWIMMER Bluetooth Speaker Review: Get Loud

This might not be the most conventional golf review, but when I was approached by BOOM to try out the SWIMMER Bluetooth Speaker I actually was a bit excited.  I am a music freak and love to have music playing whenever possible, including the golf course.

Now I know some of the “traditionalists” won’t like hearing that, but oh well.  I truly think if it makes the game more enjoyable and it’s not too loud to bother anyone else then it is completely fine.  BOOM reached out to Bunkers Paradise because they wanted to make sure that the golf world knew there was a bluetooth speaker out there for them. So what is the BOOM SWIMMER Speaker?

SPECS:

  • 100% waterproof with an IPX7 rating
  • Bluetooth wireless connectivity
  • Durable shock-proof and dust-proof design
  • Two-hour charge time for up to eight hours of playback at maximum volume, or 16 hours at half volume.
  • Rechargeable Lithium Ion battery

(IPX7 rating means you can immerse the speaker in 3.2 feet of water for thirty minutes with the tail on.) Swimmer Speaker Water

LOOKS/FEEL:

The SWIMMER speaker is covered by a rubberized silicone skin for protection against scuffs and also to protect it from damaging the speaker on drops and falls. The speaker we received was Gray/Teal but they also have it in Blue/Gray, Red/Gray, Teal/Gray and White/Blue.

The speaker isn’t that big and doesn’t take up a lot of space, which is nice. It also is very lightweight, which makes it easy to stash in a backpack or better yet a golf bag. The speaker comes with a flexible tail that can be wrapped around almost anything and because of the inside wiring it holds pretty steady.  You can also use the suction cup that comes with the speaker as well, which I actually do in my old Toyota Yaris, since there is no bluetooth capabilities in my car.  Yes I know, I need a new car. PERFORMANCE:

The BOOM Swimmer speaker was very easy to set up and connect to my iphone.  Once I charged the speaker, it literally took seconds to set it up.   The Bluetooth connectivity allows you to wirelessly pair a number of mobile devices not just one. There is a power button on the outside of the speaker, which you hold down for a couple seconds and it makes an announcement over the speaker letting you know you are connected. It does the same when turned off.  There also is a blue LED light that flashes every few seconds to let you know the power is on as well.

As I mentioned above I have used the speaker in my car with the suction cup on the window, which brings me to another feature.  When the suction cup is in use, the speaker and it’s bass effect are actually louder, which is kinda fun if you are ‘All about that bass’.
So how does this pertain to a golf website?  As you can see from the photos above the wired tail allows the speaker to be attached to your golf cart, which is how I used it.  I was able to listen to my music while on the course, which was pretty cool. The best part is that you can control the volume right from your phone.  So if you are on the tee box and you think the music is a little bit too loud, just pull down the volume slider on your phone.
I also found another great use for it, which was in my practice studio.  I could just hang it from one of my storage shelves, put on some Rocky music for inspiration and off I go.
Last thing I wanted to mention in the performance section is how good this speaker sounds.  I can’t believe how loud and clear the speaker is for how small it is.  If I’m in my car, I can turn it all the way up and actually annoy the person next to me with how loud it gets.  Not that I enjoy doing that, but you get my point, it’s loud.

OVERALL:

I understand that this isn’t a typical golf website review, but I have to admit that I love this speaker.  I use it everywhere now, even in the shower.  As I mentioned before the speaker is waterproof and can be submerged in up to 3-feet of water.  I actually got a friend to go purchase one for his family.  He mentioned to me that he wanted one because his wife and kids like watching Netflix on their ipad, but the speakers aren’t loud enough.

The cost of the SWIMMER speaker is $59.95, which is a pretty good price if you ask me. For more information on the SWIMMER speaker check them out at www.boommovement.com
